Gethsemane Gathers

Gethsemane Gathers is a social gathering program for all ages and a wonderful opportunity to build relationships with people in our community outside of our normal circles.  There is no bible study or specific agenda. It is simply an opportunity for people to socialize, is ideal for those new to the community, and for building connections with people involved in different areas of life at Gethsemane. We welcome people of all ages, including couples, singles, and families with kids.

Groupings are set up every 4 months. Our Gather Groups run over a 4-month period: Jan-April, May-August, and Sept-Dec. During that time groups usually meet once a month. At the end of the 4 months, we rearrange the groups and you will have the opportunity to meet new people. Groups typically consist of  8 to 12 people.

The group assignments are sent out with contact information (phone numbers and emails). It is up to the first household on the list to organize the group’s first gathering. The group decides where and when they want to meet. Often people choose to meet at someone’s house for a meal. It is normal for the host to provide the main dish and others will bring salad, dessert, appetizers, etc. However, groups can also decide to go to a park, have a picnic or take a hike, go out for ice cream, or any other creative idea. It simply depends on the makeup of the group, their schedules, and what they like to do.

Some ideas for gathering:

  • Host a meal at your home and make an entree. Others bring a salad or dessert.

  • Bring brown bag lunches and meet in the Great Room after Sunday education hour (check with the GLC office to make sure it’s free)

  • Meet at a local park.

  • Invite others to your favorite restaurant (everyone pays their own way)

  • Meet for dessert, appetizers, or drinks.
