Caring Contacts

Caring Contacts is a ministry at Gethsemane to care for our homebound members. Each Caring Contact is assigned one or two members whom they connect with on a monthly basis by visiting, sharing Holy Communion, and keeping them informed on and connected to life at Gethsemane.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

A dedicated circle of knitters and crocheters who craft prayer shawls to offer comfort and support to those in need. With each stitch, we infuse our creations with love and hope, extending a tangible embrace of compassion to individuals facing challenging times.

This group meets at 1:30pm on the second Tuesday of the month in the GLC Library.

Quilting Ministry

For people in need, a quilt is not just a blanket, it can be a bed, a room divider, even a suitcase! Most of all, it is a symbol of God’s love in the midst of crisis. Gethsemane supports Lutheran World Relief with quilts used in disaster response around the world. GLC Quilters are busy at work throughout the year (both at home and “Quilting Days at GLC”). Each fall the quilts are dedicated in worship, and then they’re packed up and shipped to LWR to give to those in need.

Annual Fall Service Day

Join us every November as members of GLC and IYK join together to serve our neighbors here in the Sharon Woods neighborhood. Projects typically consist of raking leaves, miscellaneous yard work, and minor home repairs and cleaning. We consider it a blessing to be able to connect with our neighbors in this way, and let them know God loves them and we do, too!

Fall Service Day 2024 will be Saturday, November 16 (weather permitting)!

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is the ELCA’s annual day of service. This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.
